POLITICAL HEAT AMID 2022 ELECTIONS

The  Political Heat Amid 2022 Elections

By: YVONNE GATWIRI

With less than thirteen months  to the next general election in Kenya, many political leaders are running up and down to form political coalitions that will help them win the presidential seat in the first round.

Deputy president William Ruto and his allies are making several trips to different parts of Kenya to get satisfactory votes from the citizens. To achieve this, he has been distributing motorbikes, wheelbarrows and wheel carts to small business operators to help them earn their living.

However, statistics show that for him to win , he must retain the same vote that earned jubilee victory in 2013 and twice in 2017. This means he has to gain not less than two thirds votes in the  ten Mount Kenya counties. ``That won’t be a walk in the park for him,`` says political analyst Lloyd Wasike.

On the other hand, opposition leader Raila Odinga will be making his 5th attempt for the presidential seat. Its not yet clear if the opposition chief is really going to be in the ballot because he denied claims that he asked Hon. Kalonzo Musyoka to back him up for the third time.

Wiper party leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi, Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetangula and Gideon Moi senator for Baringo are also in the run to form a coalition. The four are yet to announce officially who their presidential candidate is, the person chosen from the four will go head on with Deputy President William Ruto, and other presidential aspirants.

Rearrangements being made by some political leaders are geared towards power sharing and having nothing to do with the issues of putting up plans on how to transform a Kenyan citizen livelihood.
